Q&A

What type of clothing is recommended for yoga?

We suggest Choose yoga clothes made from moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics, such as nylon or polyester. These materials will help keep you cool and comfy during your practice, especially if you're practicing hot yoga or more strenuous forms of yoga, such as power yoga.

What are We Supposed to Wear to the Gym?

For the gym, choose moisture-wicking fabrics like polyester blends for comfort and sweat absorption. Opt for breathable tops, supportive sports bras, and flexible, non-restrictive bottoms like leggings or shorts. Proper footwear with good support is essential for safety and performance.

What is Outdoor Attire?

The starting point for choosing the right gear comes with these keywords: items have to qualify onwaterproof and windproof, furthermore the fabrics should be highly breathable and quick-drying. Lightweight could be added but this is certainly less important as one of the primary features. And cotton is out.

What are the Best Hiking Essentials?

Waterproofs: jacket & trousers (double up as wind proofs) Warm Layers: fleece jumper, hat, gloves, scarf etc. Map & Compass (and the skills to use them). Food & Water.

What are the Best Climbing Essentials?

  • Water bottles to hold at least 2-3 liters
  • Appropriate athletic and non-restrictive clothing for two days outside including closed-toe sneakers or light boots and a light, packable rain jacket. Summer weather at AR is variable and moves quickly; we suggest layers to cover weather from overnight lows in the 60s to daytime highs in the 90s.
  • Sunscreen/insect repellent/any other personal items you need for a day outside
  • Any personal climbing gear you’d like to use (NOT required): Helmet, harness, shoes, chalk bag, locking carabiners, belay devices, etc.
  • A small daypack/summit pack to carry the above

What are the Best Backpack Essentials?

  • Lightweight shelter—tarp, tent, or hammock, with stakes or rigging as required.

  • Sleep system—inflatable or foam sleeping pad and a lightweight sleeping bag

  • Camp cooking system—packable stove, fuel, lighter, cooking/eating vessels and utensils

  • !!!Headlamp!!!

  • Food—lunch/snacks and dinner for Saturday; breakfast and lunch/snacks for Sunday. Food adds up in weight! Consider the weight and packability of what you bring as well as ease of prep in the backcountry without access to refrigeration. You must pack out all your packaging and any food waste (orange peels, etc).

  • Food ideas: —
  • Lunches: Wraps or sturdy bread like bagels with a filling like nut butter, tuna or chicken in single-serve packets, hard cheese, summer sausage, etc. —Snacks: Bars, fruit, trail mix, nuts, dried fruit —Dinner: Dehydrated backpacking meals or meals based on couscous, rice noodles, or other quick-cooking grains

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with mix-ins; instant or pour over coffee

  • Water—there is a clean and flowing spring at Annapolis Rocks to provide drinking water. We recommend filtering or treating however you prefer. If you prefer to pack in your water, you will need at least 1.5 gallons for the weekend.

  • Personal/hygiene items as desired. There is a pit toilet at the cliff and instructors will provide a group first aid kit.

  • Backpack (35-50l) to carry all the above. Expect to carry a climbing rope in on the hike as well on top. Please make sure you check rarely-used items for completeness/function, change batteries, etc., before the trip. If you need recommendations or suggestions for gear please let us know and we'd be happy to help.
